Pool Freediving Course

The Pool Freediving Course is a 3 day-long course (conducted in the evenings) that covers the basics of freediving and provides a good introduction for you to begin your journey into the depths. The course will be broken down into 2 knowledge reviews (theory sessions) and 2 pool sessions at the Comox Valley Sports and Aquatic Centre. The content of this course covers preparation for freediving, breathing/stretching techniques, equipment, freediving physiology, techniques for static breath holds and dynamic (horizontal) dives in a pool setting, and how to safety and rescue an individual in a pool setting. Upon registration into this course, you will be given a registered account with the Molchanov Dashboard where you will have access to your course manual, other freediving literature, and training guides. Upon completion of this course, you will receive a Molchanovs Lap 1 certification, enabling you to have the skills and training required to safely and effectively train in a pool setting in your community.

  • Safety buddying and rescues in pool setting

  • 200m swim unassisted, non-stop, in a pool setting

Level 1 Freediver

The Level 1 Freediver Course is a 2-day long course with an official Freediving Certification provided upon completion, which will allow you to freedive with other freediving centres internationally. The course is challenging, but very in-depth, and it will teach you how to become an autonomous freediver that can dive comfortably and safely. The course will be broken down into 2 knowledge reviews (theory sessions) and 2 water sessions, covering static breath holds, depth dives, and dynamic (horizontal) dives. Upon registration into this course, you will be given a registered account with the Molchanov Dashboard where you will have access to your course manual, other freediving literature, and training guides. The course offers one free coaching session after completion.

  • Mamalian Dive Reflex, activation, and its effects

  • Practice of free immersion and constant weight (bi-fins) freediving techniques

  • Maximum dive depth: 20 meters

  • 1:30 min static breath hold

  • 30m Dynamic swim

Passing Requirements (Open Water):​

  • FIM and CWTB dives 12-20m

  • Rescue from 6m

  • Perform roles of safety diver​

Level 2 Freediver

The Level 2 Freediver Course is a 3-day long course with an official Advanced Freediving Certification provided upon completion, which will allow you to take your freediving skills to a much more comfortable level and explore more depth safely. The course will cover deep diving and more advanced equalization techniques to help with efficiency on your descent. As well, in this course you will learn how to effectively freedive with no fins, practice deeper rescues of another freediver, and improve your safety diver skills and safety depths. The course will be broken down into 2 knowledge review sessions, 2 water sessions, and 1 pool (or confined water) session.  â€‹

  • Deeper dive into freediving physiology: learn Henry's Law and Dalton's Law

  • Advanced equalization technique for deep diving and the effects of deep diving on the body

  • Learn about no-fins diving (CNF) and how to execute CNF dives with effective technique 

  • Work on improving all skills from your Molchanov Wave 1 course (FIM, CWTB, Static time, DYN)

  • Maximum dive depth: 30 meters

  • Wave 1 or Apnea Total Certification, or completed crossover evalutation

Passing Requirements (Pool):

  • 2:30 min static breath hold

  • 50m Dynamic swim (with fins)

  • 30m Dynamic swim (without fins)

Passing Requirements (Open Water):​

  • FIM and CWTB dives 24-30m

  • No fins dive (CNF) to 15m

  • Rescue from 15m

  • Perform roles of safety diver at depth of 10-15m​

Personal Coaching

Personal coaching sessions are tailored to your needs and your current skill level. Together, we can work to improve your freediving skills such as: depth, technique, breath hold time, hangs, and dynamic pool training. Personal coaching also offers dry clinics which include a meditation practice, lung stretching, and COâ‚‚ tolerance training. When done properly, effective dry training can be just as beneficial, if not more, to improve your breath hold times.   

Open Water Coaching:

  • 2-3 hours

  • various training options on the line (FIM, CWTB, CNF)

  • Max depth 40m

Pool Coaching:​

  • 1-2 hours
